Millie Bobby Brown and More Celebs Who Got Engaged Or Married as Teens

Young love. Several celebrities over the years didn’t let age stop them from tying the knot with their loved ones.

Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown announced her engagement to Jacob Bongiovi in April 2023 after two years of dating. Using lyrics from Taylor Swift’s song “Lover,” the actress captioned a pic of herself wearing an engagement ring while being hugged by her fiancé, “I’ve loved you three summers now, honey, but I want ‘em all.”

While several famous faces congratulated the happy couple in the post’s comments section — including her Enola Holmes cast mate Sam Claflin and Stranger Things costar Noah Schnapp — many fans were quick to point out Brown’s young age, as she was only 19 years old at the time of her engagement to Jon Bon Jovi’s son.

“She’s so young idk whether to congratulate her or say sorry,” one person wrote via Twitter following her engagement announcement, while another tweeted, “Damn sis did u even give your youth a chance.”

However, several fans defended the Godzilla: King of the Monsters star’s decision. One spectator commented on her engagement pic, “She’s an adult who is perfectly capable of making her own decisions. We got to see her as a child, BUT she is no longer a child.” Another user wrote, “Some people want a family and think of commitment and I respect that. I don’t think people should insert their not needed opinions.”

The two began dating in 2021 and often shared glimpses into their relationship via social media. “Always b my baby <3,” Brown captioned an Instagram post of herself and Bongiovi enjoying an ice cream and arcade date in August 2022.

The former high school football player — who was 20 at the time of their engagement — commemorated the Once Upon a Time in Wonderland alum’s 19th birthday in February 2023 with a slideshow of pics from throughout their romance. “Another year around the sun together happy 19th to the girl of my dreams,” he captioned his Instagram post. “I love you more than words can describe. Everything about you is golden down to the core.”

Years before Brown said “yes” to Bongiovi’s proposal, Drew Barrymore made similar headlines when she got engaged at the age of 17 to actor Jamie Walters in 1992 before calling it quits the following year. The Charlie’s Angels star later got engaged to Los Angeles bar owner Jeremy Thomas at the age of 19 and tied the knot in March 1994. She filed for divorce less than two months later.

At the age of 18, Olivia Wilde eloped with a then-27-year-old Italian prince Tao Ruspoli in 2003. They separated after eight years of marriage, with a source telling Us Weekly at the time that it was the Booksmart director’s decision. “Her career has exploded and she saw being married is not as much fun,” the insider revealed in February 2011.

Kim Kardashian, herself, also got married at a young age. Like Wilde, she eloped with ex Damon Thomas in 2000 when she was 19 years old. She and the music producer — who is 10 years her senior — ended their relationship three years after saying “I do.”
