Every Time Hilarie Burton and Jeffrey Dean Morgan Gushed Over Each Other

Swoon alert! After keeping their relationship under wraps for years, Hilarie Burton and Jeffrey Dean Morgan started shouting their love for each other from the social media rooftops.

The couple were introduced by Morgan’s Supernatural costar Jensen Ackles, who is married to Burton’s former One Tree Hill castmate Danneel Harris.

“I happened to be single and Jensen said, ‘I’ve got a girl you should meet,’” Morgan recalled to HuffPost in 2015. “So I went to a bar and I met Hilarie at a bar with Jensen and Danneel, and the rest is history. … We ended up back at my house drinking shots of tequila.”

While the duo both had work commitments, the Walking Dead star convinced the former MTV VJ to blow off her plans.

“I was on my way to do a movie called The Resident in New Mexico, and she was on her way to Paris, and I talked her into, instead of going to Paris, to come and see me in New Mexico,” he explained. “And I ruined her life and now she’s stuck with me.”

After getting together in 2009, Burton and Morgan welcomed a son named Gus in 2010. While reports surfaced that they exchanged vows in 2014, the couple didn’t legally marry until October 2019.

While the spouses continued to act in various projects, they also moved their family to the quiet town farm in Dutchess County, New York. In February 2018, Burton gave birth to their daughter, George.

“Please meet George Virginia Morgan,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “She was born February 16th. Her daddy delivered her. We love her very much.”

Scroll through to revisit Burton and Morgan’s sweetest public declarations of love:

Booze Buddies
While announcing their new alcohol brand, Mischief Farms Libations, in April 2022, the couple gushed over one another via social media. “On our first date, it was clear that @jeffreydeanmorgan was a big dreamer,” Burton captioned a series of photos of their new whiskey and gin bottles. She added: “Very quickly we planned a family, a farm, small businesses (@samuelssweetshop), a production company, and a hefty amount of fun all throughout. And it has been the WILDEST of rides. But even now - 13 years in — we are still daydreaming about what else we can create together.” Courtesy of Jeffrey Dean Morgan/Instagram
Christmas Angel
“Monday morning. Love this lady. Wish you could see the combat boots. Happy holidays kids. Xo,” Morgan wrote via Instagram in December 2021 alongside a photo of his wife lounging on the couch in her robe ahead of the holidays. “I should add some context … Monday morning after nonstop for days, weeks, months of doing all she can do to bring devonia inman and Nikki Addimando home from prison for the holidays. TIRELESS. Phone calls, emails, zoom meetings, a damn tv show. The results are coming in… she wears combat boots for a reason. I couldn’t be more proud. @hilarieburton is a bonafide badass.” Courtesy of Jeffrey Dean Morgan/Instagram
Best Friend
“Happy birthday to my best friend. @hilarieburton is a lot of things … I’ve been sitting here trying to figure out what words to use to describe her awesomeness … there are too many,” Morgan wrote via Instagram in July 2021, celebrating his wife’s 39th birthday. “She … in a word? Perfect. The hottest. The smartest. Most thoughtful. Pretty damn funny. Easily the meanest according to our kids. Also hands down, the best mom … according to our kids … and me. Talented as hell. Nobody kisses better… not that I’d know. But really… more than anything? She’s my best friend.”  The Grey’s Anatomy alum gushed over the birthday girl, adding, “Every second of everyday she’s many of the above things simultaneously, more. But ALWAYS, my best friend. And it’s her birthday. And I’m not with her. I should be. I should never miss her birthday. Ever. So… after this year, I won’t. I love you Mrs. Morgan. I’m wishing you the happiest of days…. When I get home. Happy birthday. I’m real glad you were born… and SO recently too! Xoxo husband.” Courtesy Jeffrey Dean Morgan/Instagram
Love You the Most
Burton explained how loving Morgan so much was both a blessing and a curse in a sweet June 2021 Father’s Day post. “What a glorious curse to love another human this much. A lot of people are celebrating that the lockdown of the last year and a half is seemingly over. Not us so much,” she wrote. “Between productions being shut down and virtual school for Gus, this was the very first time in our life that we all got to be together for an extended period of time. My husband @jeffreydeanmorgan has killed himself over the years to get home for soccer practices, school art shows, birthday parties. But for this last year+ we have all been attached at the hip. And we loved it.” The One Tree Hill alum noted that her family was a “weepy mess” after dropping their patriarch at the airport — but it was worth it. “As I tried to explain to our kids, what an absolute miracle to love someone so much! We are so lucky to have this man in our lives. The goodbyes are f—king heartbreaking," she wrote. "The hellos are holidays in and of themselves. I just want to shout from the rooftops that I found the perfect father for my kids, and I don’t take it for granted. All your effort means the world to us, Jeffrey.” Courtesy Hilarie Burton/Instagram
So Proud
"He may play a devilishly handsome bad guy on TV, but everyone knows @jeffreydeanmorgan is a sweetheart! I’m gonna take this moment to brag on my husband because I think he deserves ALL the awards. All of em. Hell, give him the Heisman. An MTV VMA. A Kentucky Derby wreath," Burton captioned a photo of her husband in April 2021, noting that he makes his job on The Walking Dead look "effortless" although it's not at all. "He can easily shift between Denny charm, and Ike Evans moral confusion and Negan bravado. He’s not afraid to cry AND kick someone’s ass all in the same project. He can deliver a 20page monologue, give it endless layers and make it look easy! That’s some #ianmcshane on #deadwood level fun!" She also complimented his role as a father in her post. "No one will ever know the work he puts into his roles at home, cause talking about 'the craft' is corny and he’d rather just show up on set and know his shit. Walk the walk," the author continued. "But as his biggest fan, I want folks to know and appreciate that he does all his prep work with a toddler attached to him like a barnacle, and a tween boy asking him a million questions and a nagging wife who wants to know what he wants for dinner and if he’s checked the mail." Scene Partner
“Days away from ‘Here’s Negan’ another little sneak peek of @hilarieburton and myself having fun on camera. Working with her on this? Probably the highlight of my career. I sure know how lucky I am,” Morgan captioned a series of photos from his wife’s appearance on The Walking Dead in March 2021 ahead of the April 4 episode. Burton also commented on working with her man, tweeting, “Best gig of my life. @JDMorgan xoxoxo.” YouTube
Valentine For Life
“My Valentine. For many a Valentine’s Day. Thank you for making me the luckiest, making damn near everyday a hallmark kinda day, proving to me that love isn’t a rumor. Thank you. Mrs Morgan, I just love the shit outta you,” the Washington native captioned a sweet Instagram snap with his love in February 2021. Courtesy of Jeffrey Dean Morgan/Instagram
Birthday Babe
“He’s a person who is electric, dynamic. He laughs hard and can curse a blue streak, and has a heart bigger than most,” Burton wrote via Instagram in April 2020, of her husband on his birthday. “He takes on responsibility and fights for others, and works hard. And then he comes home and doesn’t rest...he’s the pony that our kids hop on. He’s the cuddler of donkeys. He’s the dreamer who pulls a log out of the woods and makes a table or art or mountains of firewood.” She added: “But to me, he is the only person who’s opinion matters. I met him when I was 26, and he saw me for who I wanted to be. And then he kicked down every obstacle to get us here. Happy Birthday, Jeffrey. You make everything better.” Courtesy of Hilarie Burton/Instagram
Tinker Town Throwback
“This was maybe our third date. @tinkertown. New Mexico,” the Lethal Weapon alum wrote via Instagram in April 2020, alongside a throwback photo of the couple at the beginning of their relationship. “This sign was an omen. ‘Live Life as the pursuit of happiness.’ It’s scary out there. But this one, @jeffreydeanmorgan, brings me back to Tinkertown days.” Courtesy of Hilarie Burton/Instagram
Calm in the Storm
“I’ve aged 300 years in the last month. And I’ve got all the grey hair to prove it. After absorbing all the messages asking for help, I’ve also had more than one freak out,” the mother of two shared via Instagram in April 2020, amid the coronavirus pandemic. “So I just publicly want to thank my husband @jeffreydeanmorgan for being the rock of our family. The calm in the storm. Thanks for letting me cry, for not caring that the house is a disaster, or that dinner is usually at 9pm. Also, thanks for bringing me coffee in bed this morning. You’re nice.” Courtesy of Hilarie Burton/Instagram

“I wrote a love letter so long we had to make it a book! Happy Valentines Day you guys,” Burton wrote via Instagram in February 2020, announcing her book, The Rural Diaries: Love, Livestock, and Big Life Lessons Down on Mischief Farm. “Our official release date is May 5th, just in time for Mother’s Day! (Which also happens to be the anniversary of when JD and I met. Kismet.)” The actress then thanked her No. 1 fan, her husband, for his support during the writing process. “The biggest thank you of all goes to my forever Valentine, @jeffreydeanmorgan,” she continued. “This farm has seen us through so many ups and downs. Births and losses. Even just this week, we mourned our sweet Snowball together. Being your teammate makes all the unexpected turns manageable. You have given me a life worth writing about, and I love you. Plain and simple. I love you.” Courtesy of Hilarie Burton/Instagram
A Decade of Love
Burton reflected on the 2010s by sharing unseen pictures from the couple’s nuptials on New Year’s Eve 2019. “Ten years ago, I was pregnant, unemployed, unsure about where I was gonna live or give birth and despite the bravado I may have projected, I was scared. My whole life I’d thought I would follow the same path as everyone I’d grown up around. Have a steady job. Get married. Buy a house. Have kids. But the path didn’t unfold that way at all,” she wrote in December 2019. “A decade later, I can look back at my younger self and say “it’s okay, honey! Happiness will surprise you! Let it!” 2019 was incredibly good to our family. The wedding I thought I wanted when I was 26 was made so much sweeter by waiting. My love for @jeffreydeanmorgan has evolved into something so much deeper and golden. Our children participated and were at our sides for all of it.” The actress added that their wedding was “the celebration of an entire decade.” “As I see all the year in review posts today, my entire year - my entire decade really - can be summed up in that one day,” Burton gushed. “Happy New Year, everyone. I hope your path is winding and surprising and takes you on a wild ride. Biggest Happy New year to @jeffreydeanmorgan , Gus and George. Love isn’t a big enough word. Bring on the Roaring Twenties!!!! 2020!” Matt Baron/Shutterstock
October Bliss
Burton gushed about Morgan in a lengthy Instagram caption after revealing they secretly tied the knot during a “private” and “magical” ceremony. (She also denied reports that they wed in 2014.) “Jeff and I just want to put it out there that WE GOT MARRIED! For real. We’ve lived as husband and wife for a decade. We’ve built a family, and a farm and found our community,” she wrote in October 2019. “From the moment I met @jeffreydeanmorgan , he was my husband. Rather than make vows right out of the gate, we lived them. For over ten years. The good times and the bad. Standing up there with our children at our sides – celebrating all that has been – was bliss. I love you Jeffrey. I love our intimate group of friends and family who joined us. I love the various circles of loved ones who have supported us over the years.” Sasithon Pooviriyakul/@sasithonphoto
Date Night
After Burton and Morgan hit the 10th season premiere of The Walking Dead in September 2019, the One Tree Hill alum posted a sweet Instagram tribute to her husband. “Per the usual, I’m so proud of this one. He kills himself to get back and forth from the farm in NY to set down in GA, and he put in some damn fun performances in between,” she wrote. “The whole @thewalkingdead family has been so so good to @jeffreydeanmorgan and me and our children. Congrats to everyone there and at @amc_tv on the new season!” Matt Baron/Shutterstock
Doting Wife — and Mom!

Birthday Bliss
The Guns for Hire actor made sure his wife felt loved on her 37th birthday, sharing a sweet slideshow of the two of them together. "Happy birthday to @hilarieburton The hottest chick on the planet," he wrote via Instagram in July 2019. "The greatest mom, partner, and best friend a fella could ask for. This day is yours and yours alone. You are the love of my life mama. I have to pinch myself constantly because I just can’t believe how lucky I got with you."  Courtesy Jeffrey Dean Morgan/Instagram
Morgan Family Kisses
The former Good Wife star dedicated his wife’s Mother’s Day tribute “to the best mama in the world” in May 2019. “@hilarieburton we just couldn’t love you more! We all having a rough time today without you here… but we also are so proud of you, and so happy you’re working and doing what you love!” Morgan wrote. “Counting the days, hours, minutes, and seconds until we see you again… and smother the hell out you with Morgan family kisses and cuddles! Happy Mother’s Day lady. You’ve given us EVERYTHING and we know it. Xxxxjdgus&george.” Courtesy Jeffrey Dean Morgan/Instagram
Just Because
“I LOVE @HilarieBurton. Just thought I’d put that out there,” Morgan tweeted in April 2019. “I miss her so much. Figured a public declaration may put a smile on her face. She does EVERYTHING while I’m away doing what I do. I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without her. Period. Literally my best half.” He signed the sweet post, “Xoxoxojd.”  Jim Spellman/WireImage
The Most Memorable Moments
Along with their two kids, the actress wished the Supernatural alum a happy birthday with a sweet video in April 2019. “It’s @jeffreydeanmorgan Day!!!!! Happy Birthday, my sweet. It’s #earthday, but you’re our whole wide world!” Burton captioned the clip via Instagram. “You give and you give and you give. And it would be impossible to even come close to repaying you.”  Burton then compiled “a list of all the great memories” Morgan gives “everyone else.”  “Some recent personal favorites of mine, - the dozens of dolphins following our little family along the beach. - how excited you get every time you cook a turkey - walking late night through the Village. Arm in arm,” she gushed.  “Discovering our favorite sandwich - Fang - that damn Peter Pan statue in Kensington Gardens. You make the mundane into memorable moments.”  Burton concluded: “Y’all post your @jeffreydeanmorgan memories below. I love you, Mister. Here’s to another year of adventure. Xoxoxoxoox.”  Courtesy Hilarie Burton/Instagram
Quick Reply
After the twosome’s daughter George accidentally posted a video to Burton’s Twitter in April 2019, fans thought it might be a clip of a heartbeat. Morgan shut down those reports with an NSFW message about his wife. “It’s hils butt. I’d recognize anywhere,” he replied. Jason Merritt/Getty Images
Wish List
In March 2019, Morgan shared an adorable photo of George’s “wish list” — as documented by her brother, Gus — which read “Dada” three times. Burton sweetly agreed via Twitter, “It also happens to be my wish list. Love you the most. X.”  Courtesy Jeffrey Dean Morgan/Twitter
Charitable Duo
Burton gushed over her husband’s philanthropic work with Astor Services, a charity that assists families with children who suffer emotional and behavioral health problems, in February 2019. “I love how these kids respond to @JDMorgan,” she tweeted. “The biggest kid of all. Xoxoxoxo.” Gregg DeGuire/Getty Images
