Matthew Kaplan is a film producer responsible for plenty of popular young adult films. His teen romance To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before was an immense success that prompted several sequels. This businessman is allegedly dating “Call Her Daddy” podcast star Alexandra “Alex” Cooper — a pairing that has all the makings of a Gen Z power couple.
Before the media mogul and creator of ACE Entertainment’s current gig, he was the president of Awesomeness Films, and has slowly climbed his way up the Hollywood ladder. One of the keys to his success is that he focuses on finding fresh talent. Rather than always going for big-name celebrities, he helps amateur actors get their start.
Cooper and Kaplan’s romance has been kept rather secret, but the star podcaster’s fans were able to put the pieces of the puzzle together using details from Cooper’s show.

Matthew Kaplan, born on April 14, 1984, graduated from Columbia University, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree while playing quarterback for his college football team, the Lions. Upon graduation, CBS president Les Moonves hired him as an intern, which eventually grew into the director of digital development role. After leaving CBS amicably, he went to Lionsgate Films, overseeing projects like Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd’s They Came Together. The intern-turned-producer worked hard and founded Chapter One Films, signing a first-look deal with horror juggernaut Blumhouse Productions. Chapter One produced films like The Lazarus Effect and 6 Miranda Drive before Kaplan moved on to Awesomeness in 2015, where he led their film division. This role was massive since the company was new to the film industry, but Kaplan came in clutch and helped produce several young adult films. One of these was 2017’s Before I Fall, starring Zoey Deutch. Two years into his tenure at Awesomeness, Kaplan left to once again try his hand at creating his own production company. This company became known as ACE Entertainment and focuses on the young adult demographic. ACE is now a top-tier production company after producing To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. Additional filmography produced by Kaplan includes Spontaneous (2020), The Perfect Date (2019), and The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, which is coming to Netflix soon. Kaplan told The Hollywood Reporter in 2017, he seeks to develop and “nurture the careers” of up-and-coming talent behind the camera by mentoring the very generation his content is marketed towards. The Pennsylvania native, born August 21, 1994, is a Boston University grad who previously worked for the YouTube channel Dirty Water Media. The channel covered Boston’s nightlife, party scene, and gaming events. Cooper got her start as a podcaster in 2018 when she and her (former) best friend Sofia Franklyn began a podcast. These first-time podcasters’ dating advice and raunchy stories gained plenty of traction, landing them a deal at Barstool Sports. Originally, Cooper wanted to be a YouTube vlogger but as CHD’s popularity grew, she realized her calling was on a different medium. Franklyn and Cooper parted ways in a rather dramatic fashion back in 2020 — the pair was long-overdue for a contract negotiation, but Franklyn wanted to part ways with Barstool at the expense of Call Her Daddy’s IP. Cooper was not willing to rebuild the pod without its running gags and shared vernacular, leading to a breakup of the then-roommates’ personal and professional relationship. Cooper did eventually leave Barstool Sports for a groundbreaking $60 million deal with Spotify over the course of three years — cementing her as the highest-paid female podcaster in history. The "Call Her Daddy" host never specifically named Kaplan as her significant other (a.k.a. “Mr. Sexy Zoom Man”), but fans were able to put two and two together using details from Cooper’s show. The pair met over Zoom during a business meeting at the height of the pandemic in 2020. Allegedly, Cooper quickly fell for the ruggedly handsome movie producer, and the two eventually met for a business dinner. The dinner turned into a weeklong date, but they decided to keep things a secret due to their careers. Still, Cooper let a couple of details slip about her boyfriend being a producer and owning a dog named Henry. Her subscribers quickly discovered Kaplan fit this criterion (along with some other helpful clues). Courtesy of Alex Cooper/Instagram; AFF-USA/Shutterstock

In 2014, Kaplan started dating Australian actress Claire Holt. They got married in 2016 in an intimate setting with only family and close friends. Holt shared as much on her social media, but the pair divorced soon after in 2017. Before his marriage to Holt, Kaplan had been linked to designer Ashley Olsen. Cooper’s ex-boyfriends and love life are a big part of her podcast, and just like fans were able to track down Kaplan, plenty of her exes’ identities are essentially an open secret. For one thing, Cooper dated the NBC actor Ryan Eggold briefly — five dates to be exact. He’s known for his work on 90210 and The Blacklist. In the past, she dated pro baseball star Noah Syndergaard from the Philadelphia Phillies. Known as “Slim Shady” on the pod, he’s one of the podcaster’s only confirmed relationships to date.
