It all started because of their mutual love of horses. Kaley Cuoco and Karl Cook met at a horse show in California in March 2016 and were married for three years before pulling the plug on their relationship.
The Big Bang Theory alum and the equestrian were first linked just months after Cuoco and her now ex-husband Ryan Sweeting split in September 2015 after nearly two years of marriage. After stepping out for their first red carpet in September 2016, Cuoco began gushing over the athlete and her hopes to spend forever with him.
“I couldn’t be happier. I feel very, very lucky that I found someone like him,” the former 8 Simple Rules star told Us Weekly in September 2017 before explaining why they are the perfect match.
“I like to torture him and he doesn’t get mad at me. He just lets me do it! I’m just constantly trying to rib him,” Cuoco joked. “He’s got such a great sense of humor. I like it when I’m bugging him, bugging him and then I finally get that laugh which just kills me. He’s just … I don’t know. He’s a real person and I think the big deal was knowing how much he loves dogs and horses — that’s always on my checklist. ‘Must love dogs’ is number one and he checked that off quite quickly and I fell very hard.”
Fast-forward three months later and Cuoco’s dreams would come true on her 32nd birthday when Cook got down on one knee and proposed to her.
“Still crying every part of this night has been perfection just like you @mrtankcook I love you forever!” Cuoco captioned an Instagram video of the moment she said “Yes!” and added the engagement ring emoji.
While they wed in June 2018, they announced their decision to call it quits in September 2021.
“She’s been in really great spirits lately,” a source exclusively told Us later that month. “She certainly doesn’t come off as someone who just separated from her husband.”
The insider revealed that there are “countless guys who would love to date” Cuoco, but she “laughed it off” when she was asked on a date shortly after her split from Cook.
“Now’s not the time,” the source noted. “She really wants to take this time to focus on herself and focus on her upcoming roles. She remains positive and optimistic about the future.”

Shortly after the duo tied the knot, Cook proved he was a doting husband after Cuoco underwent shoulder surgery and he was there every step of her recovery — which included doing the actress’ hair for her. “All I’m asking for is a top-knot ponytail … No, I want a top-knot bun, please don’t mess this up,” she said in the first of a handful of Instagram Stories that showed Cook attempting the hairstyle. The animal activists spent their first Thanksgiving as husband and wife helping rescue a baby seal. “So here’s what I’m grateful for … at my in-laws beautiful beach house, Karl and I came across a baby seal who was obviously lost and in pain,” she wrote alongside a photo that showed a team of volunteers assisting the animal. “I called the 24 hour @cimwi___ (marine and wildlife hotline) and asked if someone could come help him. Cuoco opened up about the differences in her marriages to Cook and Sweeting, noting that her husband did not feel emasculated by her success like her ex did. “I think even with my, you know, I was married previously, but even with that person, that was a big problem,” she said on the “Armchair Expert” podcast. “And I was like, ‘I have to be with someone who really has their own — whether they’re famous or not — their own life.’” She added that the equestrian was “so fulfilled” by his career and she had a tendency to “get obsessed with his lifestyle” because she loved what he did. The pair announced their plans to divorce in a joint statement. “Despite a deep love and respect for one another, we have realized that our current paths have taken us in opposite directions,” they said in a statement to Us Weekly. “We have both shared so much of our journey publicly so while we would prefer to keep this aspect of our personal life private, we wanted to be forthcoming in our truth together.
