Ariana! Kaia! Kate! 11 Revelations From Pete Davidson's Most Candid Interview

To say Pete Davidson was candid during his new interview with Charlamagne Tha God would be an understatement. The 26-year-old comedian opened up about all of his famous exes, his desire to start a family, his mental health battle and more in the tell-all shared on Monday, February 24.

“I think it’s a mixture of all it. I think there’s just a lot of bulls—t out there,” Davidson told the radio personality, 41, about his rocky last two years. “It’s definitely trail off from AG. Being in other relationships … The [paparazzi] following really bugs me. Like they come to Staten Island, they come to my house. It’s scary.”

Davidson’s star rose after he got engaged to Ariana Grande in June 2018. The twosome, however, called it quits four months later. The Saturday Night Live star has subsequently been linked to Kate Beckinsale, Margaret Qualley and Kaia Gerber.

“I don’t love breakups, but it definitely, like, fuels me to get better and be better,” Davidson told Charlamagne. “I’m deep, deep f—ked up. I should figure some of that out. … I’m not dating for a while. Unless I meet the love of my life —“

When the host suggested that Davidson meets the “love of [his] life every six months,” he laughed.

“What can I say? I love love, but I’m pretty done with that. I’m going to try and stay away from that. It’s just a lot,” the comedian admitted. “I love being in a relationship. I love doing stuff and Netflixing and hanging out, going out to dinner. I love that s—t. It makes me really happy. Also it’s an escape from life when you have, like, a partner. It’s fun. … It’s nice to have a lady around.”

While Davidson admitted that he “looks like a whore,” he said he’s “only been with” the girls he’s been in public relationships with.

“I’ve only been with like five, six people,” he said. “If I was a girl, I’d be like a virgin. They were like at least three to six months … I’m not just like running through stuff.”

Davidson added that’s he’s learned a lot from his failed relationships.

“I think you grow a lot as a person. I’ve learned a lot from the awesome chicks that I’ve been with, and they’re all cool,” he said. “So I think you just grow, you become a better version of yourself, because you learn a little something from everybody.”

On Having Fans Sign NDAs

Davidson made headlines in December 2019 for asking ticket buyers to sign a $1 million nondisclosure agreement at his comedy shows.

“The NDA, I just thought it was funny to charge more than I have,” he quipped. “My jokes leak. People come to my shows with a notepad, I see it, even if phones are locked and then they put them in The Post or whatever. And my jokes are out there. Jokes aren’t like songs. Billy Joel’s still doing ‘We Didn’t Start the Fire’ for 40 years … once you do a joke, it’s over. … And then someone took a picture of the NDA and put out NDA, which just proved my point of the NDA.”

On Kaia Gerber Split

Davdison’s most recent romance with the 18-year-old model ended in January. “We were dating for a few months and she’s very young and I’m f—king going through a lot,” he explained, noting they split before he checked back into treatment. “She should be having fun and s—t. She shouldn’t have to worry about some dude who has issues and s—t. … It just wasn’t like the right place or the right time.”

The Set It Up actor added that Gerber’s parents, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, were “really helpful.”

“They’re all cool,” he said. “I cry a lot. I get into deep conversations. I care about, like, your s—t. … I like to like meet your family and know who you are. … I’m a lot for certain people.”

Davidson concluded that Kaia is “beautiful” and “smarter” than him.

On the Margaret Qualley Romance

Us broke the news in October 2019 that Davidson and the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actress split after a whirlwind romance. “Beautiful soul, great girl,” he said about Qualley, 25. “She’ll win an Oscar. ... She's f--king dope."

On That Kate Beckinsale Relationship

Davidson and Beckinsale dated for four months from January 2019 to that April. He called his romance with the actress, who is 20 years older than him, “legendary.”

“All of my uncles freaked out,” he quipped. “She’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.”

While Davidson said that Beckinsale was “understanding” of his mental health struggle, it wasn’t the right time for them. “I think I was going into another rehab. I must have a pattern, I wasn’t right yet and she had a lot of acting and work to do,” he explained. “She’s a superstar.

On Ariana Grande’s Shade

Last month, Grande was accused of throwing shade at Davidson for taking off a ring and putting it in a box during her Grammys performance. Davidson told Charlamagne that he’s “sure” it was a slight dig at him.

“She’s the queen of shade,” Davidson quipped. “I get it. That’s her job. … She has music to it, I get it. I hope people feel the same way about my jokes.”

Charlamagne then pointed out that Davidson has some jokes about his former fiancée in his new standup special.

"I think genuinely being hurtful is off-limits or anything like being s—tty or anything," he explained. "I wanna be cool with everybody but, you know, standup's part of my life. That was a highly publicized thing. I feel like she got her fair run and her fair stab at it, and like I said, I don't have social media and I don't have an outlet really to express my feelings so standup's just how I do it."

Davidson concluded that it’s a “punch in the gut” when people only refer to him as Grande’s ex.

On Ariana Mourning Mac

Grande’s ex-boyfriend Mac Miller died from an accidental drug overdose in September 2018. ”I think I said, like, 'I'll be here until you don't want me to be here,'" he explained about helping the singer mourn. "I pretty much knew it was over around after that. That was really horrible and I can't imagine what that s—t is like. That s—t is just terrible. All I do know is that she really loved the s—t out of him and she wasn't putting on a show or anything. That was f—ed up and prayers to his family and all of his friends, still."

On ‘SNL’ Disses

Davidson made it clear that he isn’t happy when his Saturday Night Live costars poke fun at him on the show. “I personally think I should be done with that show because they make fun of me on it. I get it,” he said, calling the show “cutthroat.”

“I’m cold open political punchlines; I’m weekend update jokes. … [It’s like] whose side are you on,” he continued. “I have a weird feeling in that building where I don’t know whose team I’m on, really.”

Still, he hasn’t made the final decision to leave the sketch comedy show just yet. “I really wanted last year to be my last year. … I feel like, yeah, I've done as much as I can over there but [I'm] happy to be there as long as Lorne likes me," he said, referring to creator Lorne Michaels.

On Wanting to Be a Dad

A common theme throughout the interview was Davidson’s desire to be a father — sooner rather than later.

“Anyone can have my child. … I got to be in love and stuff, but I’m at the point where I’m like maybe I should adopt or something. Me and my mom,” he said. “I think everybody’s afraid of the Davidson seed.” He added that he hopes to be a dad in the next five years.

As for Gerber’s joke last month that she was pregnant and eloping, Davidson said she was just joking around.

On Cutting Himself

Davidson admitted that he’s scared women away from how honest he is about his mental health battle. “I like to be very up front about that so there’s no, like, surprises,” he said. “I don’t what you to be surprised if I cut myself or if I have to go away from a rehab or if I have to go to certain therapy. It breaks the ice easier. … I don’t want to waste your time.”

The comedian told Charlamagne that he cuts his chest. “That’s why I started getting tats on my chest to cover them,” he said. “It’s a release. … Whenever you’re so manic and upset, sometimes that the only thing that would work for me. But now you go to rehab and learn, like, you can take cold shower, you can work out, you can listen to music really loud, you can read this excerpt, you can go on the Calm app, you can call a friend. … There’s so much s—t you learn.”

While Davidson admitted that he’s been suicidal more than once, he thinks of his family. “I can’t. I got a mom and a sister and a family,” he said. “I’ve always been suicidal, but I’ve never had the balls, which I’m very lucky. For the first time, like, when I went away this time I felt like I had, maybe, almost the balls.”

On Returning to Rehab

“It’s really sad and depressing to go to rehab,” Davidson admitted, noting that he confirmed his most recent stint in treatment through his standup set to keep things light. “I’ll be back. I just go, like, I have to get my meds re-adjusted all the time. I have, like, in between bipolar and borderline and PTSD and s—t from my childhood. … I don’t think going to rehab is that big of a deal. I think it’s really strong, powerful thing.”

Davidson noted that he was sober for two and a half weeks during his most recent stint so the doctors could re-adjust his meds. “Usually when I start cutting or when s—t gets a little insurmountable [I know it’s time to go back],” he said. “My friends will tell me.”

He added that his “rock bottom” is when people around him are scared of his behavior, noting he’s probably doing mushrooms and acid when people start to get concerned.

Davidson concluded that all of his exes love him, but they are all “worried” about him, which “sucks.”
