Breakups are rough — especially when they happen in the public eye. Celebrities such as Jersey Shore: Family Vacation star Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, Lily Allen, plus Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik, have all endured splits in 2019.

Sara Gilbert and Linda Perry

The Conners star filed to legally separate from the singer on December 27 after five years of marriage. Gilbert cited “irreconcilable differences” and listed their date of separation as August 13. She requested joint legal and physical custody of their 4-year-old son, Rhodes.

The Ladies of London alum announced their split on December 26. “After 17 years, filled with joy, adventures, ups and downs, Cem and I came to the conclusion some time ago that we will continue our relationship not as husband and wife but as good friends and parents to our wonderful 3 children we love very much,” Stanbury wrote. “We wish each other all the happiness and look forward to maintaining our strong family unit ❤️.”

A source told Us Weekly Lovato and Wilson called it quits one month after becoming Instagram official. The singer confirmed her split from the model on December 20. “Please don’t go after him. He’s a good guy. Much better than what people see on the outside just because he’s got a lot of tattoos,” she replied to a fan via Instagram. “Breakups are hard for both parties involved. Just stay nice and say prayers.”

The Real Housewives of Potomac star let Page Six announce her split from fiancé Jesse (whose last name was never disclosed) for her on December 19, 2019. She took to Instagram later to confirm the news, posting a screenshot of the publication’s article. ”I honestly dont know a good way to call off an engagement. But page six did it for me,” Rose wrote in the caption. “I feel nervous about posting this, but screw it, maybe it will make questions at holiday parties easier. So, there it is in an article for me, breaking it all down. #lchaim.” Of the breakup, she told Page Six: “It wasn’t anything too overly dramatic — it was more so like a car running out of gas.”

Us Weekly broke the news in December that Tatum and Jessie, born Jessica Cornish, called it quits after one year of dating. “[They] broke up about a month ago,” a source told Us, and “are still really close and still good friends.”

The Real Housewives of New Jersey stars split after 20 years of marriage, Us Weekly confirmed on December 17. The news came after Joe moved to Italy following his release from ICE custody after he served 41 months in federal prison for fraud. “Teresa and Joe have separated, but have no plans to divorce yet. Teresa and Joe talked about their future when she and the girls were in Italy and decided it was best for them to separate,” a source told Us. “Neither of them wanted to be in a long-distance relationship.” The source added, “Joe has been dating in Italy, Teresa is busy taking care of their girls right now. They harbor no ill will towards each other and will continue to coparent their kids. The girls will be going to Italy is December, Teresa will be staying home.”

The longtime couple announced on December 13 that they have chosen to end their marriage after 22 years. The news came one year after Giuggiol revealed that she had an affair with her alleged stalker. Firth and Giuggiol, who wed in 1997, share sons Luca and Matteo. The pair confirmed their separation in a joint statement to Us, which read: “Colin and Livia Firth have separated. They maintain a close friendship and remain united in their love for their children. They kindly ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”

The Star Trek actor filed for divorce from his artist wife after 18 years of marriage, as TMZ reported on December 10.

The Bachelor in Paradise season 6 couple, who got engaged on the ABC spinoff, called it quits in December. The news came three months after the BiP finale aired in September.

“One of the many lessons this life has taught us is that it’s okay to be stubborn in the pursuit of happiness. To fight for what is real and good, and that often times the hardest thing and the right thing are the same,” the pair said in a joint statement shared on their respective social media accounts on December 10. “We’ve reached a point in our story where we agree it’s best to go our separate ways. We have chosen to love and respect each other as friends because that’s the base of our relationship, and it’s what is most natural for us. We are incredibly thankful for the support we’ve received from our family, friends and everyone who supported us throughout our journey - from paradise to this moment.”

The statement concluded: “We are grateful for everything that we’ve learned in this chapter, and are hopeful for what is to come in life and in love for both of us.”

Us broke the news in November that the “Complicated” songstress split from Sarofim after one year of dating. Lavigne was first spotted with the son of Texan billionaire Fayez Sarofim in February 2018.

The This Is Us star filed for divorce from the actress on November 22 after two years of marriage. Justin listed their date of separation as July 8 and cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.

The actress announced her split from the Halt and Catch Fire star in November 2019 after nine years of marriage. “Earlier this year Scoot and I decided to divorce," she penned on Instagram. "While we are no longer married, we will work together to make sure our children are raised jointly and lovingly.” The former couple, who met on set of the 2010 film Monsters, are the parents of two children.

The actress announced her split from the NBC Sports analyst after eight years of marriage on November 15. "After a lot of thoughtful consideration, and work on our relationship, we have made the difficult decision to lovingly part ways as a couple," she wrote via Instagram while pregnant with their third child. "We are committed to, and excited about, raising our three beautiful children as close friends and deep partners, and we have the utmost respect for one another." The estranged couple are the parents of daughter Marlowe and son Major.

The Brazil-born star confirmed to Us Weekly that she was “looking for a lawyer” to assist in her divorce from the Kentucky native. Her confirmation came one day after Paul posted to his Instagram Story that Karin has “started divorce proceedings.” They share a son, Pierre.

The Hellboy star filed for divorce from his longtime wife on November 5. He listed their separation date as May 10. The pair, who wed on Valentine’s Day in 1981, have been married for nearly four decades and share two children: a daughter, Blake, and a son, Brandon. News of their separation came after the actor was caught kissing his StartUp costar, actress Allison Dunbar, five months earlier.

The Big Brother stars called it quits on November 5, only one month after the show’s season 21 finale. Jack shared via Instagram that the duo “decided to take a break,” but added that there were “no hard feelings” and “no bad blood” between the pair. On Analyse’s Instagram Story, she expressed how “thankful” she was “to have met such a great man like Jack and beyond blessed to have been able to experience and create new memories with one another.”

The Vampire Diaries alum and boyfriend Grant Mellon split after less than a year together, Us Weekly confirmed on November 5. A source told Us that the actress and screenwriter had done their separate ways about a month earlier. The couple, who were first spotted on vacation in Indonesia in December 2018, were last seen together in September in Paris.

The BH90210 star announced his split from the lifestyle blogger on October 31 after nine years of marriage. “With our hectic work schedules we could not be busier, and over the last few years have grown apart,” the actor explained via Instagram. Meanwhile, Ludwig wrote in her own post: “After 9 1/2 years of marriage Ian asked for a divorce. After having asked multiple times I knew it was time to give up. Knowing that I am not the person to make him happy makes the situation feel more peaceful.” The estranged couple share daughters Mia and Penna.

The former View cohost and the police officer, who have a 23-year age difference between them, called off their engagement in October after two years together. Weeks before the news broke, O’Donnell told Us exclusively that they had “no wedding plans.”

The Bachelor in Paradise season 6 couple called off their engagement less than two months after the finale aired. Burnett and Haggerty confirmed the split on October 31 in a joint statement: “What has always been at the forefront of our relationship is love and care for one another. Our priority is doing what is best for us. With a heavy heart full of love for one another we have decided it is best for us to take a step back from our relationship. We ultimately want what is best for us in the long run and for us right now, that means being apart and growing individually.”

 

The statement continued: “We have felt so much love and support from you all as you’ve followed our journey together and for that we are grateful. We will forever be proud of the impact our love story has made and we hope it has helped others feel more accepted and confident within themselves. We hope it reminded others they aren’t alone and don’t need to be ashamed of who they are.”

The Teen Mom 2 alum announced on October 31 that she is divorcing her husband after two years of marriage. “The kids and I have moved away from David. Nobody gets into a marriage expecting it to end but I know thats what is best for me, and for my kids. Today I’ve filed papers to start that process,” she wrote on Instagram. “I appreciate the support from everybody who has asked how I am. Me and the kids are doing great. We need some time to be together. But you’ll hear from us again soon.”

The Claws star and Tucker announced their split on October 30 after eight years of marriage. “We believe in the beauty of truth. Always have,” they said in a joint statement. “Our truth is that in this season of our lives, we are better friends than partners in marriage. Our union was such a gorgeous ride. And as we go our separate ways now, we feel fortunate for the love we share – present tense. Thank you all out there for your support of us as a couple over the last eight years. We are grateful.”

The Bachelor in Paradise season 6 couple called it quits in October after meeting in Mexico over the summer. The split came the same month that Us broke the news of JPJ’s move to California.

 

 

“We truly did the best we could, but at this time have decided that what is best for the both of us is to go our separate ways,” Tayshia wrote on October 30 via Instagram. “We are the best of friends and will continue to remain in each other’s life because regardless of the situation, we make each other happy💕💕.”

Us Weekly broke the news on October 30 that the actress ended her engagement to the singer. “She has no regrets,” a source told Us. The on-off couple first got together in 2011 and got engaged in 2018.

Us confirmed on October 29 that the Hills: New Beginnings star and the model called it quits after nearly three months together. The twosome first sparked split speculation when they deleted all of the photos of each other on their respective Instagram accounts.

Jim and Meghan King Edmonds

On October 25, Jim Edmonds filed for divorce from Meghan King Edmonds, just one day after the pair celebrated their five-year wedding anniversary. The duo, who married in October 2014, share daughter Aspen and twin boys, Hayes and Hart. 

 

“Meghan and Jim had been fighting,” a source told Us at the time. “The latest fight began when he went to a recent hockey game and she began interrogating him about who he went with.” Another source told Us that the couple got into an argument and she called the police, but it was chalked up to a verbal dispute, and no charges were filed.

The model announced her breakup from the Colombian singer on October 25 after two years together. “I love Juan Luis very much but right now we need to take time for ourselves and our careers so that we can continue to grow as artists and individuals,” Barulích said in a statement to Page Six, using Maluma’s real name.

Us broke the news on October 19 that the Oscar winner split from her audio engineer. The pair were first linked when they were spotted kissing in late July. Gaga previously called off her engagement to Christian Carino in February after two years together.

Us broke the news in October that the Kidding costars split after less than a year together. According to a source, the comedian and the Wrecked actress, who made their red carpet debut at the 2019 Golden Globes, called it quits earlier this year.

Us broke the news in October that the Good Girls star and Madam Secretary actor split after 10 years of marriage.

“Twelve years ago we fell in love and became partners. We joined our two amazing families, had countless laughs, made wonderful friends and were blessed with incredible opportunities,” the former couple told Us in a joint statement on October 17. “Today we take our next step together, but on separate paths. We will always be grateful for the love we’ve shared and will always work together to raise our two beautiful dogs. The What/If actor and the Supergirl actress confirmed on October 15 that they were parting ways after nine years of marriage. “It’s with heavy hearts that we have come to the mutual decision to separate at this time,” they said in a statement to Us Weekly. “Our daughter [Charlie Mae] is our primary concern and we remain committed to co-parenting her together.”

The chef and the New York governor announced their split on September 25 after 14 years together. “Over the recent past, we have realized that our lives have gone in different directions and our romantic relationship has turned into a deep friendship,” the pair said in a statement. “We will always be family and are fully supportive of each other and dedicated to the girls. Our personal lives remain personal and there will be no further comment.” The couple never married. Meanwhile, Cuomo shares daughters Cara, Mariah and Michaela with ex-wife Kerry Kennedy.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star announced her split from her husband of two years in a statement on September 19. The pair share daughter Brooklyn, whom they welcomed in November 2018.

 

“It is with profound sadness that I regret to inform my fans that I am divorcing my husband Marc Daly,” Moore said. “Due to recent and ongoing circumstances, I can no longer continue in the marriage. My sole concern and focus is and will always be my daughter, Brooklyn, my miracle baby.  She was made in love and true commitment. I ask for our privacy to be respected moving forward.”

News broke on September 16 that the Blink-182 rocker and his longtime love had called it quits after 18 years of marriage. San Diego Superior Court records obtained by Entertainment Tonight indicate that the Angels and Airwaves frontman filed for divorce from his spouse on September 3, with TMZ reporting that he cited “irreconcilable differences.” The former couple share a daughter, Ava, and a son, Jonas.

Before Alaina was set to take center stage on Dancing With the Stars, she revealed on September 16 that she broke up with the comedian. “I mean, there’s, like, no big story,” she said on The Bobby Bones Show. “We were, like, best friends before we dated, and we’re still best friends. It just didn’t work out. I guess that’s how dating goes, right?” The country singer, who began dating Crist four months after calling off her engagement to Alex Hopkins, told Us Weekly on August 21 that Crist would “be able to make every show on [DWTS] except the first one.”

The 90 Day Fiancé alum announced her breakup from her boyfriend of less than a year in an Instagram post on September 11.

“After 8 months of being Erickee’s girlfriend I have to tell my followers that we have decided to break up and go our separate way,” she wrote. “There is no hard feelings or regrettees [sic], but I need to look in my own soul and focus on being the best Larissa I can be.”

The oil field production operator filed for divorce from the former governor in September. He cited “incompatibility of temperament between the parties” as the reason for their split. Sarah and Todd were married for 31 years. They share five children: Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper, and Trig.

The former couple confirmed to Us Weekly on September 6 that they split after four years of marriage. “After much discussion and a long period of contemplation we have decided we are better off as friends, business partners and co-parents rather than life partners,” the statement read. “We remain committed to our business, our values and most of all our children. Thank you for respecting our privacy at this time.” Deschanel and Pechenik, who wed in 2015, share a daughter, Elsie, and son, Charlie.

The 24 alum filed for divorce from her longtime love in August 2019. According to documents obtained by TMZ, their date of separation was listed as June 2019. The actress exchanged vows with the personal trainer at Las Vegas’ Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in 2009. They welcomed their son, Valentine, in 2008.

Scott pleaded not guilty to the charges on May 17, 2019. If convicted, the film guru faces a maximum sentence of up to 11 years and eight months in state prison.
