Bad blood. Celebrity feuds dominated the 2010s with new enemies facing off and old wounds reopened. Over the past 10 years, a few names consistently popped up in the headlines for fighting with fellow celebrities.
Mariah Carey battled it out against Nicki Minaj and continued her years-long shade of Jennifer Lopez over the past decade. The “Obsessed” singer was asked in 2001 by a German reporter about J.Lo to which Carey replied, “I don’t know her.” The response birthed the now-iconic meme which grew popular in the 2010s. Wendy Williams asked Lopez about the remark in 2016 and the “On the Floor” singer said, “She’s forgetful, I guess.”
Carey later explained why she gave that response in an interview with Pitchfork in 2018. “I really was trying to say something nice or say nothing at all,” she said.
Lopez, meanwhile, seemed to throw subtle shade at the “Heartbreak” songstress when she was seen scrolling through Instagram during Carey’s performance at the Billboard Music Awards in May 2015. The dancer defended herself on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen in February 2016 telling host Andy Cohen, “I watched a lot of it. It was a long performance.”
Kanye West took issue with multiple recording artists over the years including Jay-Z, Taylor Swift and Drake. The drama with Drake began in May 2018 after Pusha-T fired off at the “Nice for What” rapper in lyrics from his album Daytona, which was produced by West. Drake retaliated on the diss track, “Duppy Freestyle,” which caused Pusha T to out Drake’s then-secret child, Adonis, on the track “The Story of Adidon.” Drake released another track “No Stylist,” which seemed to take shots at West. In September 2018, West apologized for his part in the feud and claimed he never revealed Drake had a son to Pusha-T.
West shared that he had put his rivalry with Drake behind him in an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music’s Beats 1 in October 2019. “You cannot be in service to God and be mad at your brother next door. I go to Drake’s house … and just will leave my phone number,” the “Follow God” rapper said.
Swift also found herself in the headlines in the past 10 years for her feuds with Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry and West, which sparked the inspiration for plenty of music and memes.

These musical divas were in a war of shady words while judges on season 12 of American Idol from 2012 to 2013. The jabs started off lighthearted with Carey questioning Minaj's knowledge of Mean Girls quotes. Later, the rapper took a dig at Carey's classic tune "All I Want For Christmas Is You" saying that it "was" the best modern-day Christmas song to which Carey replied, "Still is, dahling! No. 1 last year. Seventeen years later, it's still No. 1." However, the feud escalated in video obtained by TMZ in 2012 which featured Minaj and Carey yelling at each other at the judges' table. "I told them I'm not f--kin' putting up with her f--kin' highness over there," Minaj said in reference to Carey. The Grammy winner clapped back saying, “Oh why, do I have a 3 year old sitting around me?”
Minaj called Carey "insecure and bitter" for her behavior via Twitter in 2013. She also addressed rumors that American Idol producers considered replacing Carey with Jennifer Lopez. "All dem #1s but Jlo phone ringin?" she tweeted at the time. "I guess having a personality, being a secure woman, and giving genuine critique still trumps that."

Their beef began when Minaj's "Anaconda" music video wasn't nominated at the 2015 VMAs. The "Starships" rapper called out MTV for the snub on Twitter in July 2015. “When the ‘other’ girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination," Minaj tweeted alluding to Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" music video, which was nominated for video of the year. "If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year."
Cyrus, who was hosting the 2015 VMAs, spoke out about the controversy in an interview with the New York Times ahead of the awards show. The "Wrecking Ball" singer called Minaj's comments “not polite” and “just about [her]self." When Minaj accepted her award for best hip hop video at the VMAs, she gave the clawback heard around the world. “Back to this bitch that had a lot to say about me the other day in the press; Miley, what’s good?” she fired at Cyrus on stage. Cyrus promptly replied, "Nicki, congratu-fu--ing-lations."

The rappers appeared to be taking subtle shots at each other ever since Cardi skyrocketed to fame with her single "Bodak Yellow" in 2017. However, Cardi insisted the feud was fabricated by fans in an interview with Apple Music's Beats 1 in April 2018. “I just feel like it's really internet made-up,” the "Money" artist said at the time. “I really feel like fans and people really want to see that happen because it's really entertaining. To see people beef is entertaining.”
In August 2018, Minaj told Beats 1 that she didn't think Cardi was receptive to criticism.“To me, she may have taken an issue with things that I’ve said, but I’m not going to bite my tongue," Minaj explained. "You gotta have thick skin. People talk sh--t about me all the time. You can’t be expect to be liked and loved and praised all the f--ckin’ time. Give me a break.”
The feud escalated when Cardi B and Minaj got into a physical altercation at Harper's Bazaar party at New York Fashion Week in September 2018. According to attendees, Cardi threw her shoe at Minaj and was restrained as she tried to charge at Minaj. In October 2018, Cardi revealed to W magazine that the fight was sparked by Minaj liking a tweet which criticized Cardi's parenting skills. "So for somebody that don't have a child to like that comment," she said at the time. "So many people want to say that party wasn't the time or the place, but I'm not going to catch another artist in the grocery store or down the block."

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star posted a nude selfie on social media in March 2016, which caused Midler to respond with a joke. “Kim Kardashian tweeted a nude selfie today. If Kim wants us to see a part of her we’ve never seen, she’s gonna have to swallow the camera,” the actress quipped. Kardashian replied, “I know it’s past your bedtime but if you’re still up and reading this send nudes."
She added, “I really didn’t want to bring up how you sent me a gift awhile back trying to be a fake friend then come at me.” Midler took the shade in stride writing back, “@KimKardashian wants me to send her my nudes! I’ll send them right over but the lighting’s bad right now since she threw all that shade!”

The pair's feud began in 2009 over songstress Mariah Carey. Cannon was married to the "Fantasy" singer from 2008 to 2016 and the former couple are the parents of twins, Monroe and Moroccan. Eminem, for his part, has claimed he briefly dated Carey, which she has denied. He called out Carey and Cannon on the track "Bagpipes From Baghdad" in May 2009 rapping, "Mariah, what ever happened to us? / Why did we have to break up? Nick, you had your fun, I've come to kick you in your sack of junk." Later that month, Cannon responded in a since-deleted Tumblr post. "I don’t know why no one has stood up to your b---- a-- yet," the Masked Singer host wrote at the time. "But I guess it’s going to take a corny, wack rapping, boy toy from Nickelodeon to set you straight."
The feud was reignited in September 2019 when Eminem referenced the Grammy winner and Cannon on Fat Joe's song "Lord Above." "I know me and Mariah didn't end on a high note / But that other dude's whipped-that p---y got him neutered," he rapped. "I let her chop my balls off too before I lose to you, Nick."
Cannon responded with multiple diss tracks and an invitation for Eminem to battle him on his MTV series Wild 'N Out.

Knowles and Jay-Z made headlines when the "Don't Touch My Hair" singer hit and kicked Jay-Z while Beyoncé silently watched on in an elevator after the 2014 Met Gala in New York City. The fight was captured by the elevator’s surveillance camera and became a viral sensation. Jay-Z explained in August 2017 that he and Solange's relationship is in a good place.
“We had one disagreement ever. Before and after we’ve been cool,” the “Family Feud” rapper said in an interview with the podcast "Rap Radar." “She’s like my sister. I will protect her. That’s my sister, not my sister-in-law. My sister. Period.”

Stewart has taken shots at Paltrow and her lifestyle brand, Goop, since 2013, when she was asked by Bloomberg TV how she felt about Paltrow's foray into the lifestyle scene.
"I haven't eaten at Gwyneth's house, and I've never seen how she lives," Stewart told the publication. "She wants to be a lifestyle arbiter. Fine. Good. I think I started this whole category of lifestyle."
Stewart threw more shade at Paltrow while appearing on Alex Rodriguez’s podcast, "The Corp," in August 2019. “How would you describe what Gwyneth Paltrow is doing today versus what Martha Stewart created years ago?" Rodriguez asked Stewart. “I don’t follow Goop,” she replied. “Sometimes I look at products that she’s selling … I wish every young entrepreneur well and I hope that there are many, many, many different kinds of entrepreneurs … if they’re movie stars or hardworking women like I am, who are not movie stars. If they have a good idea, I want them to be able to succeed. So, good luck, Gwyneth.”

Ciara claimed on an episode of Fashion Police in 2011 that the "Needed Me" singer was rude to her at a party. Rihanna replied on Twitter, "My bad ci, did I 4get to tip u? #howrudeofme."
Ciara tweeted back, "Trust me Rhianna u dont want to see me on or off the stage." The "Work" vocalist delivered one of the most iconic clapbacks of the 2010s writing, “Good luck with bookin that stage u speak of." The feud didn't last long and Rihanna offered an apology. "Ciara baby, I love u girl! U hurt my feelings real bad on TV! I'm heartbroken! That's y I retaliated this way! So sorry! #letsmakeup," she tweeted at Ciara who agreed to move on.

The two comediennes made Swift the punchline of a joke at the Golden Globe Awards in March 2013. "You stay away from Michael J. Fox's son," Fey said in reference to Swift's extensive dating history. "Or go for it," Poehler quipped. "No, you need some 'me' time," Fey jabbed.
Swift responded to the jokes in an interview with Vanity Fair in April of that year. "You know, Katie Couric is one of my favorite people because she said to me she had heard a quote that she loved, that said, 'There's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women,'" the "Love Story" singer said.

Swift and West's ongoing feud continued in 2016 over a dispute whether Swift gave the "I Love It" rapper permission to use the lyric, "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous" on his song "Famous." West tweeted after the track's release, "I called Taylor and had a hour long convo with her about the line, and she thought it was funny and gave her blessings. Swift's representatives replied that the singer wasn't aware the word "bitch" was in the lyric and said she had "cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message."
In July 2016, the KKW Beauty founder trolled Swift by posting snake emojis and released a series of videos via Instagram of a phone conversation between Swift and West. "I'm really glad that you had the respect to call me and tell me about your concerns about the song," Swift can be heard saying in one clip. The singer replied to the videos in a statement that claimed West never played the song for her. "I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative, one that I have never asked to be a part of, since 2009," she concluded the post.
The snake emojis later inspired the imagery in Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do" music video, which was released in August 2017.

Bloom and Bieber's tension turned into a physical altercation in Ibiza in July 2014. An eyewitness told Us Weekly at the time that Bloom became upset after Bieber mentioned Kerr. A few hours later, Bieber posted a photo of Kerr on his Instagram account along with a crown emoji but the post was deleted soon after.

West gave an interview on Zane Lowe's now-defunct show on BBC Radio 1 in September 2013 in which he referenced himself as the "biggest" rockstar in the world. Kimmel spoofed the interview with two kids sipping milkshakes portraying West and Lowe on Jimmy Kimmel Live! “Does Kanye West know he’s not supposed to be his own hype man?” Kimmel introduced the clip.
West responded on Twitter, "JIMMY KIMMEL IS OUT OF LINE TO TRY AND SPOOF IN ANY WAY THE FIRST PIECE OF HONEST MEDIA IN YEARS." Kimmel replied, “Apparently @KanyeWest is VERY VERY ANGRY with me…
The pair mended their relationship when West appeared as guest on the late night talk show in October 2017.

The pop stars were friends during the first few years of their careers but their relationship went sour in 2013 after a group of dancers from Swift’s Red World Tour left to perform for Perry's Prismatic tour.
Dancer Lockhart Brownlie told OK! magazine in 2014, “We weren’t really dancing on Taylor’s tour anyway, so I got a little bored. The experiences were totally different.”
Swift revealed in a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone that her song "Bad Blood" was about an unnamed singer. "For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not,” she said at the time. “She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?'” Swift added, “She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me.”
One day after the interview was published Perry appeared to address Swift's comments. “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing…" the "Never Really Over" singer tweeted in reference to Mean Girls.
Perry later explained the backup dancer situation on James Corden's Carpool Karaoke in May 2017. “‘Look, just FYI, I’m about to start. I want to put the word out there,'” Perry recalled texting Swift's dancers. “And they said, ‘OK, we’re going to go talk to management about it.’ And they did, and they got fired. And I tried to talk to her about it, and she wouldn’t speak to me.”
Swift and Perry finally made up when Perry appeared in Swift's music video for "You Need to Calm Down" in June 2019. Perry, who was dressed in a hamburger costume, hugged Swift, who appeared as a box of french fries, in the music video.

Osbourne wasn't happy when Lady Gaga presented her mother, Sharon Osbourne, with a birthday cake on The X Factor U.K. in October 2013. "Not to be ungrateful but why would you send me a birthday cake via my MOTHER in a country half the [world] away? #JustSendItToME #LoveNotWar," Kelly tweeted at the time. She added more fuel to the fire by posting a picture of the cake with the hashtags "#EatMySh-t #Hypocrisy."
The "Just Dance" hitmaker tried to tone down the fight tweeting, "I didn't know it was your B-day until this afternoon. Meant as a peace offering. Happy Birthday."

West revealed at his Seattle concert in October 2016 that he was unhappy with Jay-Z's reaction to Kim Kardashian's robbery in Paris. “Don’t call me after the robbery and say, ‘How you feelin’?’ You wanna know how I’m feeling? Come by the house … Bring the kids by the house, like we’re brothers,” he told the audience at the time. He added that Jay-Z and Beyonce’s daughter Blue Ivy had never played with his and Kim’s daughter North.
In 2017, West parted ways with Jay-Z's Tidal over a money dispute after he claimed he was owed more money for bringing new subscribers to the streaming platform from his 2016 album, The Life of Pablo. Jay-Z shot back with lyrics on his song “Kill Jay Z” from his 2017 album, 4:44.
"You dropped outta school, you lost your principles / You gave him 20 million without thinkin’ / He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f–k was he thinkin’?” he rapped on the track.
In 2018, Jay-Z explained that he and West may have their ups and downs but they're as close as family.
“That’s my brother,” he said on David Letterman's Netflix show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction. “We’re beyond friends. Like literally, my little brother is Kanye. And like your little brother, things happen sometimes.”
