Casting a Potential Movie! Celebs React to Gwyneth Paltrow's Ski Crash Trial

Getting in on the action. Gwyneth Paltrow‘s ski crash trial has inspired tons of memes since it began on March 21 — and her fellow celebrities can’t help sharing their own jokes about the court proceedings.

“Well, we lost a half day of skiing,” Busy Philipps wrote via Instagram on March 25, sharing a selfie that showed her grabbing drinks with friend Jen Tullock.

The caption was a reference to something the Oscar winner said in court while plaintiff Terry Sanderson‘s lawyer Kristin VanOrman was questioning her about the 2016 incident. “Is it true that you feel it’s unfair that Mr. Sanderson has brought this case against you?” the attorney asked the Shakespeare in Love actress, who replied, “I do.”

VanOrman continued by asking Paltrow if Sanderson “deterred” her from “enjoying the rest of what was a very expensive vacation.” The Glee alum responded, “Well, I lost half a day of skiing.”

The comment was one of several moments from the trial that went viral, leading many observers to suggest that someone should make a movie or TV series about the situation. After writer Evan Ross Katz asked followers to vote on who should play VanOrman in a screen adaptation, several stars chimed in to share their thoughts on the subject.

“Wait evan im dying, last slide is the perfect punch,” Ilana Glazer wrote in an Instagram comment, referring to a photo suggesting Paltrow as the perfect actress to take on the role of VanOrman. Melanie Lynskey, meanwhile, replied, “This post 😂💓.”

Though the trial has been making headlines throughout the spring, the actual incident occurred in 2016, and Sanderson filed his lawsuit against Paltrow in January 2019. The retired optometrist claimed in his legal filing that the Sliding Doors star injured him in a ski crash in Deer Valley, Utah.

“Gwyneth Paltrow skied out of control and hit the back of Terry Sanderson, another skier, who was downhill, knocking him down hard, knocking him out, and causing a brain injury, four broken ribs and other serious injuries,” read court documents obtained by Us Weekly. “Paltrow got up, turned and skied away, leaving Sanderson stunned, lying in the snow, seriously injured.”

Sanderson is seeking more than $3 million in damages. Paltrow, for her part, has denied his allegations and is countersuing for $1. “This lawsuit is completely without merit and we expect to be vindicated,” the Goop founder told Us in a statement.
