More than a decade of romance. Alec Baldwin first met wife Hilaria Baldwin (née Thomas) in 2011, and she’s been by his side ever since.
The two met by chance at a New York City restaurant in February of that year.
“I wandered into Pure Food and Wine on Irving Place, on an unseasonably warm February evening,” the Saturday Night Live performer recalled via Instagram eight years after they first met. “My friend, [Brendan O’Connell] and I sat down (outside!) and as I turned to my left I saw a woman who would change my life. Entirely. 8 years today. Thanks for all you’ve given me. You are a gift.”
In a joint interview the following year, they revealed that the 30 Rock alum approached the yoga instructor and didn’t ask for her number. Instead, he gave her his card and told her to call him.
“I was standing near the door with my friends when he walked up and took my hand and said, ‘I must know you,’” Hilaria told The New York Times in July 2012. After his future wife mustered up the courage to call him, she got his voicemail. They went on a date a few days later — and it didn’t take long for sparks to fly. The two were officially dating by spring and moved in together within a few months.
Their 26-year age difference (his was born in 1958 while she was born in 1984) was a big concern for the “Mom Brain” podcast host initially, but the filmmaker noticed her maturity right away — especially when she made it perfectly clear what she wanted from a relationship.
“While she was in no hurry, she was very mature and clear about what she wanted — to be married someday,” he recalled.
Alec was previously married to Kim Basinger for nearly 20 years until they divorced in 2002. In 1995, the pair welcomed daughter Ireland Baldwin.
Hilaria, who shares six children with her husband, opened up about being a stepmother to Alec’s eldest daughter in April 2019.
“Sometimes my language about my biological children does not include her. Because I did not birth her and I never want to disrespect the fact that she has a wonderful mother,” the fitness guru shared via Instagram amid criticism that she didn’t speak much about Ireland. “But this will never take away from how much I love her, need her in my life, and think that she is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Please don’t look for trouble where there is none.”

Hilaria revealed that she had suffered a pregnancy loss and felt it was important to share her struggle. "I have always been so open with you all about my family, fitness, pregnancies...and I don’t want to keep this from you, just because it isn’t as positive and shiny as the rest. I think it’s important to show the truth...because my job is to help people by being real and open," she shared via Instagram at the time. Andy Kropa/Invision/AP/Shutterstock

The two suffered another miscarriage the same year. "We are very sad to share that today we learned that our baby passed away at 4 months," Hilaria announced via Instagram at the time. "We also want you to know that even though we are not ok right now, we will be. We are so lucky with our 4 healthy babies—and we will never lose sight of this." Courtesy of Hilaria Baldwin/Instagram

Hilaria announced she was expecting their rainbow baby five months later. “Sound up. I’ll let the baby do the talking because I don’t have the words to express how this sound makes us feel,” the Living Clearly Method author captioned an Instagram video of her baby-to-be’s heartbeat at the time. “Just got the great news that all is well and all is healthy with this little munchkin. I wanted to share this with you. Here we go again.” Courtesy of Hilaria Baldwin/Instagram

A viral twitter thread about Hilaria put her at the center of controversy, during which she was accused of faking her Spanish accent and heritage. She said that she and Alec help their kids “celebrate both cultures” and “are raising our children bilingual, just as I was raised. The Boston native traveled to Spain many times throughout her life, and her family moved to Mallorca in 2011. The Hollywood star defended his wife, sharing in an Instagram video at the time, "There's things that have been said lately about people that I love, that I care about deeply, which are ridiculous. I mean, just ridiculous." MediaPunch/Shutterstock

After a month-long hiatus from Instagram, Hilaria released an apology. "I've spent the last month listening, reflecting, and asking myself how I can learn and grow," the podcaster wrote in a caption at the time. "My parents raised my brother and me with two cultures, American and Spanish, and I feel a true sense of belonging to both. The way I’ve spoken about myself and my deep connection to two cultures could have been better explained – I should have been more clear and I’m sorry. I’m proud of the way I was raised, and we’re raising our children to share the same love and respect for both.” Courtesy of Hilaria Baldwin/Instagram

Alec, who produced and starred in Rust, was part of a tragic shooting on set during which he accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. "My heart is with Halyna. Her husband. Her son. Their family and loved ones. And my Alec," Hilaria shared on social media after the incident. "It's said, 'There are no words' because it's impossible to express the shock and heartache of such a tragic accident. Heartbreak. Loss. Support." Courtesy of Hilaria Baldwin/Instagram

The couple went to Vermont in the aftermath of the Rust shooting. “I brought [Alec] up here because we have to mourn Halyna’s death. Alec had a really traumatic thing happen, and I am trying to limit the PTSD,” she told the New York Post at the time. “He needs space for me to take care of him and his mental health. It’s an awful thing that happened. Alec feels awful.” MediaPunch/Shutterstock

After the Knots Landing alum opened up about the emotional toll of the Rust incident during an ABC tell-all, he thanked his wife for her support. "No matter what happens to me. No matter what I suffer. If I win or lose, anything. Anything. No one can take away from me the joy and love you have given me, @hilariabaldwin," he wrote via Instagram. "These are tough times. The world is choked with fumes of hate. But you have given me a reason to live. Our life with our family is all I care about. Nothing else. I owe that to you." Courtesy of Alec Baldwin/Instagram

Hilaria shared the first photo of her husband since his sit-down interview with George Stephanopoulos earlier in the month. The snapshot showed the couple and their kids getting ready for the holidays. “We got a NYC Christmas tree 🎄,” she wrote via Instagram. “Possible holiday card photo??? "You ask me from time to time, in your darkest, saddest moments, if I were to know all of what we would go through, 11 years ago when we met, would I walk away? ... You feel as though you roped me into being a sitting target. I don't see it this way and the answer to your question is: I'd do it a million times, Alec," Hilaria gushed in a sweet Instagram tribute on her husband's 64th birthday. "The joyful moments, the scary moments, the passion, the sadness, the amazing people, the frustration, the confusion, the adventure, the laughter ... the being a wife and a mother. Yes, Alec... I'd sign up for it, again and again." Hilaria called her spouse her "best friend," adding, "Those who truly know you, who know your heart, your courage, your fears, your weaknesses, your strengths and your joys...we want you to live and enjoy each moment. Dial down the negative noise. It is a distraction from what life is about. ... We are here to help you heal and get back to YOU, as we all love you, Alec...me, your children, your family, your friends...and so many people who are reading this now. We want you to celebrate life and live it to its fullest. You deserve this and so much more. We love you and happy birthday." Andrew H. Walker/Shutterstock

As the couple awaited the arrival of their seventh child together, Hilaria joked about being younger than her husband. "Gave Alec a 90s night music history lesson. Part of the age gap we have…he DIDN’T KNOW THIS SONG!!!!!!,," she captioned an Instagram video of the duo listening to Brian McKnight. "But we do !!!" Courtesy of Hilaria Baldwin/Instagram
