And that’s a wrap on 2022! From Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez to the British royals, celebrities stole the show throughout the year on red carpets and beyond.
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians alum’s love life made headline after headline in 2022 as her romance with now-ex Pete Davidson took social media by storm. The twosome began dating in October 2021 after the California native hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time — and their relationship remained a hot topic for months.
In March, the Skims CEO and the stand-up comedian went Instagram official with a chic at-home photo shoot. “Whose car are we gonna take?!” Kardashian captioned the pics, one of which showed Davidson lying on his back on the floor with his head in the Hulu star’s lap.
“I love this,” Khloé Kardashian commented on the couple’s social media debut, while longtime pal Simon Huck added, “There he is! .”
While their relationship was one of the most-talked about of the year, the unexpected love story didn’t last. Us Weekly confirmed in August that Kardashian and the King of Staten Island star called it quits after less than one year together.
“There truly wasn’t drama between them when they decided to separate,” an insider exclusively told Us at the time. “It was something they talked through; it wasn’t a sudden breakup. They each have busy schedules and the distance made it hard.”
The Selfish author, who finalized her divorce from Kanye West in November, wasn’t the only one of her famous family members whose relationships were the talk of the town. Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker continued their parade of PDA following their October 2021 engagement — and said “I do” more than once throughout the year.
Kourtney accompanied the Blink-182 musician to the 2022 Grammy Awards in Las Vegas in April, and the big night ended with an even bigger surprise. Us confirmed that the pair visited a local wedding chapel, but the spontaneous nuptials weren’t official. (The pair tied the knot in May, both at a California courthouse and in Italy.)
“I guess what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas. I don’t even know where to begin,” the California native teased during an October episode of The Kardashians, describing the surprise wedding. “Vegas with Travis is really fun. He’s like, ‘It’s the Grammys! It’s our first Grammys together so let’s make this the best night ever.’”
The Kourtney and Kim Take New York alum continued: “I did throw up after though and took my top off and unbuttoned my pants. I had to walk back through the hotel with a million people taking my photo. I was a hot slob kabob.”
As the year continued, the world lost many icons of Hollywood and beyond. Queen Elizabeth II died in September at the age of 96, and notable names from across the globe gathered to mourn the British monarch at her state funeral. The somber event provided the highly anticipated reunion of the Fab Four: Prince William, Princess Kate, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Along with Tom Cruise and Glen Powell, Miles Teller — and his mustache — gave a memorable performance in Top Gun: Maverick. The Footloose star trained nonstop for the role of Rooster, especially for his shirtless beach scene. “We did a lot of conditioning a couple weeks [before] the beach scene, just to try to, like, top off, but he really didn’t need it. He was ready,” personal trainer Jason Walsh exclusively told Us following the movie’s May premiere. Courtesy Glen Powell/Instagram

Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde’s relationship wasn’t the only thing making headlines before Don’t Worry Darling hit theaters in September. The director’s alleged off-camera drama with leading lady Florence Pugh — and a viral video showing Styles seemingly spitting on costar Chris Pine — sparked a media frenzy that nearly overshadowed the Venice Film Festival premiere in September. They do! Lopez and Ben Affleck followed in Kravis’ footsteps with a low-key wedding in Sin City three months after getting engaged in April. “They [didn’t] want to wait any longer,” a source exclusively told Us in July. “They both thought it was a fun and casual way to tie the knot.” The couple held a second celebration of their love at Affleck’s Georgia estate in August. The 2022 Academy Awards were a night to remember — mostly thanks to Will Smith. During the March awards show, the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum stormed the stage and slapped Chris Rock across the face in response to a joke the comedian told about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair. Smith went on to win the best actor trophy that night, but he was later banned from all Oscars events for the next 10 years and rescinded his membership to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
