Update: During a Zoom arraignment on Wednesday, February 24, Springsteen pleaded guilty to having alcohol in a closed area, one of the three charges he initially faced after his arrest. Federal prosecutor Sam Baker said that there was not enough evidence to pursue the remaining charges of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving, given that the singer’s blood-alcohol level was under the legal limit.
The New Jersey native would have faced a $15,000 fine and up to 18 months in prison for the three misdemeanor charges, but a judge reduced his fine to only $500. Springsteen will pay an additional $40 for court fees and will not serve any jail time.
After entering his guilty plea, Springsteen told the court that he “had two shots of tequila” before his arrest.
