If only Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler were down to move to Charleston and join the cast of Southern Charm for season 8. The former couple have gotten involved in Madison LeCroy and Austen Kroll’s messy split — and Us Weekly is breaking down the drama timeline.
Cavallari, 34, and Cutler, 36, announced their split in April 2020 after a decade together and seven years of marriage. The twosome, who share sons Camden, 8, and Jaxon, 6, and daughter Saylor, 5, were involved in a brief custody battle before agreeing to split their time with their kids 50/50.
Several months later, Cavallari made headlines for hanging out with Kroll, his costar Craig Conover and her bestie Justin Anderson in Charleston.
“She came to town with her friend Justin and the four of us [with Craig] had dinner,” Kroll told Us Weekly about their friendship in October 2020. “We’ve all been in contact ever since. We’re in this, like, big old group chat, and the group chat is active. We had a blast with them and I’m gonna take a trip to see them in Nashville sometime soon.”
LeCroy, for her part, joined the cast of Southern Charm for season 6 in 2019 after she started seeing Kroll. The twosome continued to document their on-again, off-again relationship during season 7 before they called it quits for good in December 2020.
“We are not together right now. I am 1,000 percent single, and so is he,” LeCroy exclusively told Us at the time. “So, ladies, if you want him, you can have him.”
That same month, the hairdresser, who shares 8-year-old son Hudson with her ex-husband, also commented on Kroll’s friendship with the Hills alum.
“I think he’s trying to get under my skin, which is fine. And, like, honestly? If he can pull her, go for it. Knock yourself out. I’d be shocked,” LeCroy told Entertainment Tonight in December. “I just think it was just trying to get [a rise], get a comment out of me — and he did.”
Kroll, meanwhile, told Us that he and his ex were no longer on speaking terms after watching the season back. (The Southern Charm season 7 finale aired on January 21 and the cast taped the reunion in mid-December.)
“What you’re seeing [on TV] happened back in May, June, July. People assume that we broke up yesterday,” he said on December 16. “It’s like I cut off my addiction cold turkey. It just hasn’t been easy.”

When Cavallari and Kroll hung out for the first time in October 2020, LeCroy seemingly approved.
“Hate [that] I couldn’t see you guys!” she commented on Anderson’s pic of the foursome.

The next month, LeCroy turned heads when she left a comment on Cutler’s photo with Shannon Ford, one of Cavallari’s ex-employees whom she doesn’t get along with.
“See y’all soon,” LeCroy wrote in November 2020.

After Kroll left a flirty comment on one of Cavallari’s pics, LeCroy replied to a CommentsByCelebs post about his remark.
“Trust me if he was with her, he wouldn’t be sending me songs at midnight. bless,” she wrote.

The same week the cast of Southern Charm taped the season 7 reunion, Kroll and Conover traveled to Nashville to hang with Cavallari and Anderson. During a drunken night in, the group of four went live on Instagram and danced to Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”
That same month, both Kroll and Cavallari shut down romance rumors. “There is no Austen and Kristin. … Kristin is a beautiful, driven girl, clearly, [and that’s] what I’m attracted to,” he told Us. “But she has a lot on her plate, you know, she’s going through her own stuff.”

During a January 7 appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, the host asked LeCroy about Cavallari and Kroll.
”I was busy having my own adventure, but no, I did not [watch their Instagram Live],” she told Andy Cohen.
After Cohen asked whether this was “an adventure of the Jay Cutler kind,” she played coy. “I’m not kissing and telling,” she quipped.
The day after her WWHL appearance, a source confirmed to Us that LeCroy and Cutler were “having fun getting to know each other.” The source called their relationship “fun” and “flirty” at the time.

Two weeks later, LeCroy went live on Instagram and mocked Cavallari and Kroll’s previous Live.
“Don’t worry, my kid is at his dad’s,” LeCroy said after she recreated their dance. “I think when that video was made, hers weren’t.

Cutler and Cavallari put on a united front after LeCroy’s IG Live made waves online.
“The world is full of users. 10 years. Can’t break that,” the pair both wrote alongside a photo of them.

LeCroy fired back at Cutler and Cavallari by releasing her alleged text messages with the former football player. In the screenshots, it appears that Cutler pursed LeCroy and flew to South Carolina to see her. The Bravo star also defended herself after Cutler accused her of talking poorly about Cavallari.
“You reached out to me… Your intentions may have not been pure but that might be you projecting. I’ve never said anything about Kristin nor would I,” LeCroy texted him. “I came into this honestly with good intentions. I want no part of being involved in a payback or drama. But you initiated and pursued. If you weren’t interested in something real you shouldn’t have [redacted] with me.”
