Miley Cyrus Through the Years: From ‘Hannah Montana’ to World Tours

Miley Cyrus is a force to be reckoned with. After becoming a household name on Hannah Montana in 2006, the Nashville native has blossomed into an A-list movie star and singer who consistently keeps her fans on their toes.

From her on-again, off-again relationship with Liam Hemsworth, to her emotional albums and jaw-dropping music videos, revisit Cyrus’ journey to fame!


2006

Best of both worlds! Miley Cyrus scored the lead part in Disney’s Hannah Montana in 2006 at age 13. The breakout role skyrocketed the Nashville native into stardom.

2009

The child star was cast in The Last Song in 2009, a love story inspired by Nicholas Sparks’ novel of the same name. She fell for her costar and on-screen love interest, Liam Hemsworth, and the duo had an on-again, off-again relationship before getting engaged for the second time in 2016. In 2009, she also starred in Hannah Montana: The Movie and returned to her roots in Nashville.

2010

In 2010, Cyrus bid farewell to her blonde Hannah Montana wig and moved on from the role that launched her career.

2011

Cyrus made a new name for herself in 2011 and showed her naughty side on her Gypsy Heart world tour for her album Can’t Be Tamed.

The “Who Owns My Heart” songstress got engaged to Hemsworth in June 2012. That same year, she also chopped off her auburn locks and began sporting a more cropped hairstyle.

2013

The pop star had many headline-making moments in 2013. She nearly buzzed all her hair off, had a raunchy on-stage moment with Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards and called off her engagement to the Hunger Games actor. On a brighter note, Cyrus dropped her album Bangerz at the end of 2013, which featured catchy tracks such as “Wrecking Ball” and “We Can’t Stop.”

2014

Cyrus started dating Patrick Schwarzenegger in November 2014 and looked happy in her new relationship after splitting from Hemsworth.

2015 was a year full of positive moments and low blows for Cyrus. The “Adore You” singer split from Schwarzenegger, was linked to model Stella Maxwell and also dropped her Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz album.

Cyrus rekindled her romance with Hemsworth in October 2016 and confirmed that the pair were reengaged.

In 2017, Cyrus dropped her Younger Now record and paid tribute to her favorite city, Malibu, with a song named after the beach town. She also rocked a light blonde hairdo.

Cyrus and Hemsworth made their first public appearance as husband and wife at the G’Day USA gala in Culver City, California, in January 2019. The Hunger Games star joked on stage that he is “a big, grown adult now” before thanking his “beautiful wife.”

The Disney Channel alum poked fun at herself on her Instagram Stories in March 2019 while celebrating the 13th anniversary of Hannah Montana’s premiere. Alongside a throwback photo of her title character pressing a finger to her lips, she wrote, “After Hannah’s psychic reading when she was told in 10 years she’d become a big stoner and wear nipple pasties on stage.”

Cyrus and Hemsworth announced their decision to separate after less than eight months of marriage in August 2019.

“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,” the musician’s rep said in a statement to Us at the time. “Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.”

The same day that the “Slide Away” singer confirmed her split from Hemsworth, photos surfaced of Cyrus and reality star Kaitlynn Carter packing on the PDA in Italy. The two women ended their whirlwind romance in September 2019 after less than two months together.

After Cyrus was spotted with Cody Simpson in October 2019, she fired back at fans who accused her of moving on too quickly — and too publicly.

“I know the public feels invested in my past relationship because they felt like they saw it thru from the beginning,” she wrote in a lengthy Instagram post. “I think that’s why people have always felt so entitled over my life and how I live it because they’ve watched me grow up…. but I am grown now and make choices as an adult knowing the truth/details/reality. People only ‘know’ what they see on the internet. … I would like to share an activity with someone I am dating and not be stuck at home with pretty much nothing to do but ‘Netflix and chill.’”

Cyrus concluded: “Don’t f–king pity me, not what I’m asking for . I have a great life I wouldn’t trade for ‘ privacy’ but PLEASE don’t make this awkward for me! I am trying to make light and like always MAKE FUN of myself / and the public’s perception of me ! Get used to me dating – this is where I am at ! #HotGirlFall.”
